Richard Thomson

Richard Thomson is a highly experienced education professional with over 27 years of leadership in the British education system. Beginning his career as a Sports and English specialist primary teacher, he progressed through senior leadership roles, including Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher in both state and independent schools.
He has successfully led schools to Outstanding and Excellent inspection outcomes, demonstrating proven expertise in curriculum design, school improvement, and developing high-performing teams. As Headmaster of Newark Preparatory School, Richard achieved the highest ISI classification of Excellent in all areas, while earlier in his career he led Rauceby C of E School through an Outstanding Church school inspection and conversion to academy status.
In 2019, Richard founded Richer Learning Ltd, an educational consultancy and tutoring business providing strategic support to school leaders, nurseries, and families across the East Midlands. He has since guided numerous institutions to higher standards and sustainable growth, combining strategic insight with a passion for improving educational outcomes.
Richard has also served as Director and Nominated Person at Lifeline Family Care Ltd (St. Nicholas Day Nursery), leading a 37-member team and supporting over 200 children and 130 families. His governance work includes serving as a school governor and interim headteacher, helping guide schools through complex transitions and community change.
Richard works with schools across the region using his knowledge and experience in education to help them navigate through their own school pathway. He provides performance management, INSET delivery and auditing services. Now booking for 2025/26.
